Air Force Officers can earn excellent salaries. Their salaries are usually determined by rank and time in service, besides other benefits and allowances that they are entitled to. On January 7 the President signed the National Defense Authorization Act for 2011 that provides a 1.4% increase in military pay. In addition to salary, the US military awards hazardous duty, imminent danger or combat pay, clothing allowance, basic allowance for housing and cost of living allowance. They are also entitled to $400,000 of low-cost term life insurance coverage. The average Air Force Officer’s salary in 2011, including basic pay and other pays and allowances, works out to $55,000.
