Average Cost of Chocolate in 2011
Prices of chocolate have been steadily increasing over the years, mainly owing to the increase in the cost of cocoa. Chocolate consumption, which went up by 2.6% in the US during the previous year, is expected to move up further, with companies offering several more varieties. The average cost of chocolate in 2011 is $3 per pound for locally made brand names and $5 per pound for high quality imports. However, low quality chocolates are available at $2 per pound. The cost of chocolate is projected to increase significantly in 2011, particularly if cocoa stays at current high levels. Cocoa prices are now at a 30-year peak, almost doubling in the past 2 years alone.
