Average Cost of Hospice Care 2011
The number of people receiving hospice care across America has increased 4 to 5 times since 2006. While most of them get the care in a hospital setting, home-based services are also extended to the old and chronically-ill. One important component of hospice care is the provision of social services, and social workers play an important role in meeting the requirements of those living the final phase of their life. The average cost of hospice care in 2011 is $1000 per patient. While this may vary depending on the type of healthcare setting, the average cost for home-based services is $1,200.
