Indium is a key ingredient in liquid crystal display screens for televisions, computers and flat panel video screens. They are also used in cell phones, digital cameras, clocks and watches. It is a soft, gray metallic element with a bright luster and a very low melting point. It is relatively rare—about 3 times as abundant as silver. China controls 60% of the world’s refined Indium production and is the major exporter to the US, which does not produce the metal.
