Bread dough normally takes one hour to rise. You can leave it for another half an hour. Yeast bread may lose its taste, if it rises too long. On the other hand, if you make use of sour dough to prepare bread, you can leave it for a couple of hours. In order to check whether your bread has risen sufficiently, you can put your finger in it and pull it out. If the hole does not close up on its own, it is a sign that the bread has risen sufficiently.
