How Much Does A Federal Public Defender Make Per Year? Average Federal Public Defender Salary
The salary of a federal public defender, on average, is $60,000 per year. It is said to be almost similar to that of their counterparts working in the US Attorney’s office. Federal public defenders are federal government employees, whose offices are generally well-funded. They represent people charged with crimes in a systemic manner in the court. They are more useful in situations where the clients are illiterate and totally unaware of the provisions in the law. The US Department of Justice has announced this year that it will make available about $10 million to help government lawyers pay off student loans and federal public defenders are among the beneficiaries.
