How Much Does a Building Inspector Make Per Year? Average Building Inspector Salary
On average, a building inspector earns $50,000 a year. The income may, however, vary considerably depending on several factors such as the job location, type of employer and the industry. The field enjoys considerable employment prospects and, according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, jobs for building inspectors are expected to grow at the rate of 18% during the next several years, exceptionally high by any industry's standards. Pittsburgh and Chicago offer particularly high salaries to building inspectors. The main duty of a building inspector is to evaluate constructed buildings and ascertain if they conform to safety code and regulations. Those who work in non-residential building construction, schools and federal government generally earn more.
