How Much Does a Letter Carrier Make Per Year? Average Letter Carrier Salary
A letter carrier is a US postal service employee, who delivers mail and parcel post to residences and businesses in areas allotted to them. The term letter carrier is used as a gender-neutral substitute for `mailman’ ever since women also began joining the service. There are three types of letter carriers, namely city letter carriers, rural letter carriers and highway contract route carriers. City carriers are paid hourly and also overtime whenever essential, whereas rural carriers are paid for evaluated hours with overtime. The evaluated hours are created by having all mail counted for a period of 2 to 4 weeks. The average annual salary of a letter carrier is $50,000.
