Roofers work to install roofs on residential and commercial buildings, and to carry out repairs on roofs such as shingling. Roofers are often self-employed, or are employed with contractors and building companies. To become a roofer, individuals usually go through an apprenticeship or on-the-job training. At different stages of the apprenticeship the wages earned will be different. On average, roofers earn $30,000 to $45,000 a year.
