Rum has a very strong intoxicating effect. It is a very potent type of alcohol drink. Usually, rum has around 40 percent of alcohol in it. It is as strong as vodka and is much stronger than wines and beer. For instance, wine has only 10 to 14 percent of alcohol and beer has 6 to 8 percent.
