Argon is extremely cost-efficient and is priced at $0.5 per 100 grams. It is the 3rd most common gas and is mostly sued as an inert shielding gas in high temperature industrial processes. Argon also has uses in incandescent and fluorescent lighting and other types of gas discharge tubes. Argon is colorless, odorless and non-toxic as a solid, liquid, and gas. Although argon is a noble gas, it has been found to have the capability of forming some compounds. About 700,000 tons of argon are produced worldwide every year. It is produced industrially by the fractional distillation of liquid air in a cryogenic air separation unit.
