What Is the Average Cost of Al-Li? Average Al-Li Price
Aluminum-lithium alloys cost about $5 per pound. Al-Li is typically 3-5 times more expensive than other aluminum alloys due to the high cost of lithium, as well as high processing and handling costs. Aluminum-lithium alloys are more advanced materials with high specific properties that are best suited to the aerospace industry. They do not require large capital investments in aircraft applications. Li is the lightest metallic element and each 1% of Li reduces alloy density by about3%and increases modulus by about 5%. In addition to their use in manufacturing aircraft parts such as leading and trailing edges, access covers, seat tracks and wing skins, Al-Li alloys also have military applications and are used as substitute for conventional aluminum alloys in helicopters, rockets and satellite systems.
