What Is the Average Cost of Vitriol? Average Vitriol Price
Vitriol is the historical name of sulfuric acid. Sulfuric acid was called `oil of vitriol’ by medieval European alchemists. Pure sulfuric acid is a viscous clear liquid, like oil, and this explains the old name of the acid. The prices of sulfuric acid are currently healthy and projected to remain so until 2020, by which the production is forecast to reach about 285 million tons against an expected demand of 280 million tons. The average cost of sulfuric acid is $495 per ton. Sulfuric acid is a basic substance in the chemical industry and its principal uses include lead-acid batteries for cars and other vehicles, ore processing, fertilizer manufacturing, oil refining, wastewater processing and chemical synthesis.
