Bunya nuts are large nuts obtained from cones of huge Bunya pine tree. These nuts have a hard fibrous casing and the starchy nutmeat is similar in texture to chestnut and has a sweet and pleasant taste. The fruit is eaten raw, roasted or mixed to flour to make a kind of bread. It can be eaten raw if fresh. Boiling allows to easily extract the fruit from its hard shell. It is added to desserts and is used to make cakes as well. Bunya wood is useful in smoking of fish and meat. Bunya nut weighs 15 kgs and provide 32 calories. They are richer in proteins and carbohydrates than most other nuts
