Ammonium Acetate is a white solid that is derived from the chemical reaction of ammonia and acetic acid. It is made commercially and is inexpensive. This chemical is used as biodegradable de-icing agent and to identify iron and lead content. It can also be used with purified water to develop a protein precipitating reagent. If it comes into contact with the skin it can cause irritation. If it is inhaled then it will cause annoyance in the throat and nose sections. If ammonium acetate is swallowed then it can lead to dysfunction of the stomach causing diarrhea. It can even damage the liver. Therefore, care should be taken while handling it.
