What is Fonio? Uses and Health Benefits of Fonio
Fonio is the term used for cultivated grains belonging to the genus Digitaria. It is prominent in Africa and India. These grains are very small. White Fonio is commonly harvested in the savannas of West Africa. It has the ability to improve nutrition, enhance defense mechanism of the body, help in rural development and support land. The grains are used for porridge, bread and beer. It can grow even in poor soil and brief rains are also adequate for growth. Fonio grains are rich in amino acids methionine and cystine. Methionine helps the liver to metabolize fats and cystine is an important component of protein that plays a main role in growth of hair, nails and skin
