What is Lablab? Uses and Health Benefits of Lablab

Lablab Purpureus belongs to the family Fabaceae. Domestic types are mostly summer growing plants. Pods are 4 to 5 cms long containing 2 to 4 pale brown, ovoid seeds. Lablab is a multi purpose legume. It is traditionally cultivated as a pulse crop for human consumption in Asia and Africa. Flowers and immature pods are used as vegetables. It is also used as a green manure, cover crop and for grazing. It facilitates soil fertility. Lablab increases milk production of the livestock which is indirectly beneficial to humans. It is an excellent source of iron and magnesium and also a good source of phosphorus, zinc and copper
