What is a Tostada? Ingredients, Definition and Use
A tostada is a type of variation on the regular Mexican taco. Tostada means “toasted” in Spanish; this refers to tortilla used as the shell for the tostada. It is toasted or deep-fried until quite crispy and brittle. The tortilla is usually flat rather than folded as in many other types of tacos. Tostadas are topped with a variety of things, usually a combination of sliced lettuce and tomato, meat, stew, casserole, chili sauces, guacamole, or salsa. Tostadas are usually eaten as a main course meal.
