MMO stands for massively multiplayer online and usually refers to a large scale online video game. In most cases these games feature a fully persistent world, which essentially means that everyone who is playing the game is on the same piece of virtual continent. This means that if you wander out into the world you will see other players interacting with you and the environment. MMOs allow for play with numerous other people at the same time. They are also a great way to keep in touch with old friends and make new online friends. MMOs are usually role playing games or MMORPGS that feature enhanced character interaction, quests, and character development via leveling up. MMOs can also be first person shooters, strategy games, and others. Some examples of popular MMOs are World of Warcraft and Eve Online. For more information, read our article on MMORPGs.
