Brucite is a mineral that has an important industrial use, and is not used as a mineral specimen. It is a white, pearly mineral form of magnesium hydroxide. It is found in the structure of other minerals such as calcite, serpentine, aragonite and dolomite. It was named after the American mineralogist Archibald Bruce and it was first described in 1824. It can be found in Wood’s Chrome Mine, Cedar Hill Quarry in Pennsylvania. It is not available in the market on a large scale as a mineral specimen.
