Potassium hydroxide (KOH) is available in pellets and flakes and is highly soluble in water. It is a strong alkali and is useful in the production of soaps, batteries, fuel cells and fertilizers. It reacts with various acids to produce potassium salts used in the manufacture of glass, electroplating and disinfectant. KOH pellets are currently selling for $125 to $150 per 2kg which works out at somewhere between $35 to just over $40 per pound.
