What is the Average Cost of living in Venice per month/year?

The cost of living in Venice is as high as that of Italy generally and in some areas it is higher. The cost of housing has risen sharply putting it on the same level as that of New York, London or Tokyo. Another key factor is the cost of food which, because of fewer retail stores, is on average about 18% higher than the mainland. For the same reason the cost of goods and services is generally much higher than other European cities. These factors coupled with the water transport surcharge make Venice an expensive place to live.
