Niger is a country of 15 million people located in western Africa and covering the land area of 1.3 million km² of land. Niger gained independence from France in 1960 but still speaks French as its official language. It is currently ruled by military junta, and its capital is the city of Niamey. Niger is bordered by Nigeria, Benin, Burkina Faso, Algeria, Libya, Mali, and Chad, and is entirely landlocked.
