The Canary Islands is a group of islands off the western coast of Africa that is considered an overseas colony of Spain. As such it speaks Spanish as its official language that is controlled by the Spanish government. Officially, its capital is comprised of two cities: Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
