Pre-paid Visa cards and pre-paid American Express cards differ from normal credit cards in that not all retailers will accept them. It can often be difficult to determine from the information listed on a particular site, or if you are in a store, whether the card will be accepted. The best, and recommend way, is to call and ask. Some rules of thumb: high-margin businesses are more likely to take them, such as retail clothing stores in a mall. Bargain online retailers may be less likely to take them.
