Firefighters do as their title suggests; fight fires. This job is not as simple as it sounds, though, as firefighters not only respond to fires, but also to explosions and an array of other emergencies. Some of the duties and tasks of firefighters are; running drills, administer first aid in emergency situations, and using hoses, ladders, axes and other tools to contain fires and rescue those trapped in fires. Firefighters do not work a typical 9-5 work day, but usually work shifts of 10-hour days or 14-hour nights. This job can be stressful and dangerous. Firefighters can earn from $30,000 to $80,000 a year.
