A hair stylist’s job consists of cutting, styling and coloring a client’s hair. Before beginning work on the hair, a hair stylist will discuss different style ideas with the client and come up with the best look for the client. After cutting, styling or coloring the hair, hair stylists will give the client tips on how to maintain their style. Hair stylists typically work in salons, but may also find work in barbershops, hotels or hospitals. Hair stylists usually work a 40-hour work week and commonly work on weekends. Hair stylists make an average of $25,000 to $30,000 a year.
