Physiatrists, also known as rehabilitation physicians, are doctors who help treat and diagnose pain. When a patient is injured or experiencing pain from illness or a disability, a physiatrist is trained to treat the patient and the area in pain. Physiatrists try to decrease pain without turning to surgery. They also put an emphasis on prevention and instruct patients on rehabilitation techniques. Physiatricts can make anywhere from $150,000 to $200,000 per year.
