A veterinarian is someone who treats and diagnoses sick animals. Most veterinarians specialize in caring for small household pets, while others care for farm animals. Veterinarians usually work at or own a private practice and most of their work is done indoors. Caring for sick animals means that the hours are often erratic, and evening and weekend work is sometimes needed. Veterinarians must be good with people and work well under pressure.
